IndiGo, SpiceJet stocks slip after govt. suspends domestic flights

Shares of SpiceJet and InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo) fell in today’s trade after the central government announced the suspension of all domestic operations of Indian airlines from March 25 amid Covid-19 pandemic. The government of India has already suspended international flights.

The Civil Aviation Ministry said, “the operations of domestic schedule commercial airlines shall cease with effect from the midnight that is 23:59 hours IST (Indian Standard Time) on March 24, 2020.”

The civil aviation ministry has also said no domestic flights will operate from midnight of Tuesday, a development that comes as the country goes into lockdown mode in an effort to control the spread of coronavirus.

India has already banned international flights for a week from Sunday.

SpiceJet Ltd is currently trading at Rs31.85, down by Rs1.65 or 4.93% from its previous closing of Rs33.50 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs32.05 and has touched a high and low of Rs32.15 and Rs31.85 respectively.

Interglobe Aviation Ltd is currently trading at Rs839.50, down by Rs10.55 or 1.24% from its previous closing of Rs850.05 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs825 and has touched a high and low of Rs843 and Rs765.05 respectively
