Sensex, Nifty extend losses; HDFC, SBI stocks drop

Equity benchmark indices extended losses in the afternoon trade, with the Nifty trading below 12,000. The BSE Sensex was down 333 points or 0.82% at 40,446.

HDFC, SBI, ITC, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank were among the top draggers on the Sensex pack, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Asian Paints, HCL Tech and Infosys were the only gainers.

The Nifty auto index shed 1% dragged by Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, TVS Motor, Maruti Suzuki and Eicher Motors.

The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index and BSE Small-Cap index slipped over 1% each. The market breadth was weak on the BSE, 752 shares rose and 1,585 shares fell.

The most active stocks are ICICI Bank, Yes Bank, State Bank of India, Indiabulls Housing Finance and Zee Entertainment.

ICICI Securities, City Union Bank and Max Financial Services have hit a new 52-week high while Cummins India, GAIL India and Finolex Cables hit a 52-week low.
